Recently, the Ministry of public health of Thailand issued a notice allowing hemp to be used in cosmetics. After the government removed all ingredients except flowers from the narcotics schedule in december2020, the relevant provisions were further improved.
According to the published policy, in order to register cosmetic products containing hemp in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Thailand, the applicant must state the amount of hemp seed extract or hemp seed oil used in the product and submit relevant test certificates , Safety data and sample labels for review by the agency.
Thailand hemp varieties are considered to have higher fiber quality, while THC and CBD levels are lower. However, the government said that research on local varieties is still very lacking and needs to be further strengthened.
Although Thailand’s hemp license application process needs to be improved, the government and its partners’ licenses should also be restricted, and the policy also stipulates that hemp products cannot be imported for three years, but this has brought benefits to Thailand. The domestic commercial operation can be established in a consumer market of 70 million people to withstand the impact from major international manufacturers. Before February 20, 2024, foreign companies are not allowed to directly participate in any hemp business approved by Thailand, and only allow the import of limited hemp derivative products for scientific research.
